Fallen autumn leaves are now cluttering up the wartime zoo keeper’s garden at Newquay Zoo. They’re a haven for plant diseases, slugs and snails as well close to my lovely sald, still in the ground dosdging the first frosts. So the leaves have to go! But not far: Waste not , want not, in wartime fashion they have been collected up to become leaf mould. Farewell squander bug! The zoo has compost heaps for leaves and old straw animal bedding reducing the amount skipped into landfill.
These Ormskirk late cabbages are a thing of beauty.
