Working in the zoo’s wartime garden this afternoon,  70 years on from the invasion of Poland and with the children of Britain evacuated in muddled and bewildered safety all over Britain. The zoo busy with holidaymakers still, unlike the eerie quiet of the first few weeks of wartime in zoos with no visitors allowed. The rain this last two days is helping the seedlings get established and the first Autumn shades can be seen in our trees.    A strange day of memories for many …
